A Patient's Guide to MRI Scans: What to Expect at Point of View Imaging
Understanding MRI Scans
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive test that provides detailed images of the organs and tissues in your body. At Point of View Imaging, we prioritize your comfort and understanding of the procedure. This guide will help you know what to expect during your MRI scan.

Preparation for Your MRI
Before your MRI scan, our staff will provide specific instructions. Generally, wearing comfortable clothing without metal accessories is recommended. You may also be asked to fast for a few hours if your scan requires contrast dye.
Here's how to prepare:
- Remove any jewelry, watches, or metal objects.
- Inform the technician about any implants or medical devices.
- Discuss any concerns or claustrophobia with our team.
The MRI Procedure
Upon arrival, a technician will guide you to the MRI room. The MRI machine is a large, tube-shaped magnet. You will lie down on a movable table that slides into the machine. During the scan, it’s important to remain still to ensure clear images.

The scan typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the study's complexity. You will hear loud tapping or thumping noises during the scan, which is completely normal. We provide earplugs or headphones to minimize any discomfort.
After the MRI Scan
Once the scan is complete, you can resume your normal activities. If you received a contrast dye, drinking plenty of water helps flush it out of your system. Our radiologist will analyze the images and send a report to your doctor.

Benefits and Risks
MRI scans are invaluable for diagnosing a wide range of conditions, from brain injuries to joint anomalies. They offer a detailed view without exposure to radiation. However, it’s important to inform us of any allergies or kidney problems, especially if contrast dye is used.
At Point of View Imaging, we strive to make your MRI experience as smooth and informative as possible. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have before, during, or after your scan. Your health and comfort are our top priorities.
